We all know that feeling when a song, a dance, a painting or a poem touches our hearts in such a profound and personal way that makes it seem like it was created just for us. It is truly a special thing when we experience the empathy of the creative arts.

For the Folk is simple. It exists to provide opportunities for those in tough spots to experience and enjoy the beautiful impact of music and the arts, and to have the chance to use the creative arts themselves as a means of healthy self-expression that hopefully leads to a personal sense of satisfaction and joy.

We want to use music, writing, and art in meaningful, beautiful, and hopeful ways for any who may need it, which is honestly all of us at some point or another! In a world all too fallen and faultful, For the Folk seeks to bring light and joy into people’s lives through musical and artistic experiences and outlets that help folks feel understood, to feel seen and heard. We seek to share music, writing, and art of depth that acknowledges struggle and points to hope while giving others the creative channels that allow their voices to be heard, their stories to be told. When the creative arts go beyond mere entertainment and into authentic, soulful experiences and expressions, something special happens.

We also desire to empower other artists so that they, too, can participate in helping others through their talent, skill, imagination, and created giftedness. Again, to entertain is a good thing, but to communicate with others, to connect with others, to share camaraderie with others—all in creative ways—that is music and art existing and serving at the highest level, and that is our ambition with For the Folk.

The creative arts have served each of us personally by providing enjoyment, empathy, and the means for powerful self-expression. We now seek to serve others in need through music, writing, and art so that the beauty of creativity can do the same for them—for the folk.

Our Core Values

Beauty – Oftentimes those in difficult situations cannot easily see beauty around them or inside of themselves.  We seek to point to the God-given beauty inside of all, as well as draw attention to the beauty that is all around us.

Authenticity – For any artist to be effective in these situations, authenticity is essential

Compassion – All programs must be driven by compassion for those around us and a true heart of kindness in sharing creative spaces with those in need. As Jesus taught us to love our neighbor as ourselves, For the Folk seeks to use music and the arts to love our neighbors - especially those with limited access to it.

Peace – For the Folk promotes art that brings calm to chaos

Joy – One of the strongest means of choosing joy in difficult situations is through song.  Singing, making music, and creating beautiful things can bring a deep joy, even in the midst of hardship.
